Steve-O Used To Be A "Cocaine-Addicted Clown"

April 22, 2009

Steve-O used to be a "cocaine-addicted clown." The "Jackass" star - who was ordered to attend rehab for two years after pleading guilty to cocaine possession last year - admits his life spiraled out of control when he was a student at the Ringling Brothers and Barnum and Bailey Clown College.

Speaking about working at a flea-market circus, Steve-O said: "I was a cocaine-addicted clown. I performed two shows on Friday, three shows on Saturday and three shows on Sunday, and typically I would do cocaine through all of it without sleeping."

Steve-O - real name Stephen Glover - makes the admission in new MTV documentary "Steve-O: Rise and Demise."

The show follows the 34-year-old's life in the limelight - it finishes as he makes his debut on the latest series of U.S. reality TV show "Dancing with the Stars" - as well as his descent into drug addiction and decision to sober up.

The program includes "extreme substance abuse, terrorizing his next door neighbour, his ill-fated attempt at being a gangsta-rapper and several infamous public displays of self-destructive behavior."

Last year, Steve-O checked into a mental institution after he began suffering mood swings and depression after kicking drugs.

He said at the time: "My brain is f***ed up from using so much cocaine, ketamine, PCP, nitrous oxide, and all sorts of other drugs."

"Steve-O: Rise and Demise" airs on MTV on May 3 at 10pm.
