Student Killed On The Street Where Chelsy Davy Used To Live

A student may have been murdered on the street where Chelsy Davy used to live. The street is a well-known student area where Chelsy - the ex-girlfriend of Britain's Prince Harry - resided while she studied for her law degree at the University of Leeds, in north England.

Chelsy lived in the Hyde Park area of Leeds while she completed the year-long course from 2007 to 2008.

Joseph Cook, 20, was found dead in his home Tuesday by police officers, who suspect he was killed following a bungled burglary.

Officers arrived at the property after being informed that the burglar alarm had been activated.

Detective Superintendent Bill Shackleton said: "No one else was in the property. This is a major investigation. We have a lot of lines of inquiry and have dedicated a lot of resources it."

"I would like to appeal to anyone who saw anything out of the ordinary during the hours of Sunday evening or Monday morning to get in touch."

Cook was an art student about to embark on his second year of studies at Leeds Metropolitan University.

It is not known why Joseph was in the four-bedroom house before term started. It has been suggested he may have had a job or was planning a house party.

The victim - from Newcastle, north east England - suffered several injuries, but it is not known if these were sustained during a struggle. A basement window was found open.

A post-mortem on the body is due to be carried out Wednesday.
