Funerals, wills, and last wishes are not the most pleasant of topics. But these celebrities thought ahead, and made decisions about how they would go out! Some of them are crazy and zany! Some of them are hard to believe! Read on to find out the top 10 weirdest celebrity wills, funerals and last wishes!
Oprah Winfrey is one of the wealthiest ladies on the planet. Her fortune is staggering, and she has strange plans for it when she departs. $30 million will go to her beloved pet dogs! The rest will go to charities.
The question arises, what will dogs do with 30 million bucks? Will they will be cryogenically frozen, and be thawed in the distant future to romp in a very different world? Or perhaps they will order filet mignons for every meal.
Marilyn Monroe left instructions for all her personals, including clothing and underwear, to be left to her acting coach. Her coach was supposed to distribute the items to Marilyn's friends and family.
Her coach didn't listen and shirked Marilyn's wishes. Her items were stored in a warehouse and later sold by her coach's wife for over $13 million in 1999.
Tupac Shakur
Tupac Shakur, after almost surviving the bullets pumped into his chest, died due to the gunshot wounds. Tupac never had a funeral. He was cremated and it is reported that his crew, the Outlawz, mixed his ashes with weed and smoked him.
They did it to honor his last wishes as expressed in his track 'Black Jesus.'
"That was a request that he had. Now, how serious he was about it? We took it serious," the Outlawz told the Huffington Post.
People thought Michael Jackson was broke at the time of his death. Boy were they wrong! He had $235 million to pass on to his relatives.
MJ budgeted out his money in precise detail. He gave his mom $1,000 per month for personal grooming!
Steve Irwin, who died tragically in a stingray attack to his chest, was buried at the Australia Zoo.
"The [Australian Government] gave the family permission to bury Steve at the zoo and we think they're going to erect a monument there so visitors can continue to pay their respects," reported the Sunday Mail, a Brisbane-based newspaper.
His trademark khaki shirts have been left at the Australian Zoo he ran, reports the BBC.
Alexander McQueen
Designer and love interest of Sarah Jessica Parker, Alexander McQueen, committed suicide. And in his will, he too allotted an enormous chunk for his dogs, and the rest to charity.
Creator of Star Trek
Gene Roddenberry, creator of the hit sci-fi series Star Trek, asked to be cremated and then to have his ashes shot into space. His wishes were completed, and now his ashes are flecks in the asteroid belt.
There is a company, Celestis Memorial Spaceflights, that specializes in putting ashes into orbit.
Most of Frank Sinatra's funeral was standard. Words were spoken by family. Plenty of onlookers and photographers, as is customary at such a high-profile icon's service.. But, his pals gave him an Egyptian king-like sendoff.
His friends tucked a bottle of whiskey, a Zippo lighter, and ten dimes into the casket for their pal's use in the afterlife.
Jerry Garcia
The beloved Grateful Dead frontman Jerry Garcia was buried in a black t-shirt and sweatpants. This comfy attire is congruent to Jerry's essence.
The Grateful Dead didn't usually play up on a stage; usually they just played in the middle of everyone, people standing all around. This relaxed vibe put the Dead on an even plane with their listeners; that's part of the reason their followers were so connected to this much-missed band!
Jim Henson
Jim Henson's funeral was colored by Muppet performances. Big Bird danced in the famous New York City cathedral that housed his memorial service. Many other muppets were there to sing and dance as well.
Henson left specific instructions that as a rule for his funeral no one was allowed to wear black.
Henson also designed a booklet to be distributed at his service with two excerpts of text - one read:
"Please watch out for each other and love and forgive everybody. It's a good life, enjoy it."
The other read:
"It feels strange writing this kind of thing while I'm still alive, but it wouldn't be easy to do after I go." |
