"Glee" star Chris Colfer set to write children's books

In a statement released Wednesday, the 21-year-old actor signed a deal to write two fictional books with Little, Brown Books for Young Readers.

"When I was 10 years old, I promised myself that if I ever had the opportunity to write this book, I would jump at the chance," Colfer said in the statement.

Due in summer 2012, "The Land of Stories" will focus on twins Alex and Connor Bailey who set out in a fast-paced adventure that combines the modern world with fairytales.

The two brothers leave their world behind and find themselves in a foreign land, where they come face-to-face with the characters they grew up reading about.

The first installment will target eight- to 12-year-old readers, followed by a second novel that is yet to be titled.

"This book has been at the core of my imagination for a long time, and I'm excited and nervous to share it," Colfer said.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Colfer has also signed on to write a Disney Channel pilot, "The Little Leftover Witch," a concept based on Florence Laughlin's children's book that revolves around a witch who is taken in by a new family after her broom breaks and she drops out of the sky.

And if that wasn't enough for the busy actor, Colfer is also writing an independent feature called "Struck by Lightning", which he will star in as well.

"Chris is a remarkable talent whose writing combines all the qualities kids love - memorable characters, heart-pounding adventure, in a setting filled with wonder, intrigue and enchantment."

In 2010, Colfer won a Golden Globe award for his role as Kurt Hummel in the popular Fox television series.
