"Law & Order" DVD Offers Many Emmy Worthy Performances |

"Law & Order: Special Victims Unit"- The Tenth Year is currently available on DVD from Universal Studios Home Entertainment. The 10th season compilation of creator Dick Wolf's long-running spin-off of the even longer running TV show "Law & Order" comes complete with five discs worth of content. The season's 22 episodes are mastered in anamorphic widescreen with English and Spanish subtitles. The set retails for $59.98. The ongoing police crusade of detectives Elliot Stabler (Christopher Meloni) and Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay) continues, with episodes from the season focusing on the topics of abusive foster parents, kidnappers and smugglers, as well as a variety other sexually based offenses, in keeping with the show's focus. Cast members Ice-T, B.D. Wong and Richard Belzer also return. Numerous critics have praised the series, including Nina Gooden of Firefox News, who said, "The acting is to be expected and congratulated." As with previous seasons, the season is filled with guest stars. Noteworthy stars include Hilary Duff, James Brolin, Clea Duvall, Chris Elliot, Jesse McCartney, Luke Perry, Teri Polo, Wallace Shawn, Sara Gilbert, Martin Mull and more. Guest stars Brenda Blethyn and Carol Burnett received Emmy nominations for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama Series for their appearances on the show as Linnie Malcolm and Caroline Cantwell in the episode "Persona" and Bridget "Birdie" Sulloway in "Ballerina," respectively. Fellow guest Ellen Burstyn won the award for playing Bernadette Stabler in "Swing." Similarly, Hargitay received a nomination for Outstanding Lead Actress for the season, adding to her four previous nominations and one win in the category. Throughout its run, the show has received 22 Emmy nominations. The 11th season of "Law & Order: SVU" premiered Sept. 23 on NBC, moving from its usual 10 p.m. EST Tuesday night timeslot - currently filled nightly by "The Jay Leno Show" - to the 9 p.m. Wednesday slot. |
