October 30, 2009 12:42 pm CDT

"Scrubs" is coming back for its ninth season in December. The ABC revamped sitcom will undergo changes, with only two of the major characters set to return.

The comedy series will now focus on medical school, where Doctors Christopher Turk, played by Donald Faison, and Perry Cox, played by John C. McGinley, become teachers.

Original cast members such as Zach Braff, Sarah Chalke, Judy Reyes, and Ken Jenkins will all return throughout the season, but only as guest stars.

"Scrubs" will return to the network on December 1 at 9 p.m. and will air a second episode on the same night at 9:30 p.m., Variety reports.
