Julianna Margulies has joined CBS' drama pilot "The Good Wife," according to The Hollywood Reporter. She will play the lead in the show.

"The Good Wife" is a law-focused show about a politician's wife (Margulies) who goes back to her career as a defense attorney. The drama is reportedly female-driven, as well.

Margulies is most notable for her work on "ER," but perhaps her short stint on "Canterbury's Law" on Fox as a fearless attorney prepared her for this new role.

Robert and Michelle King wrote "The Good Wife's" script. The CBS show will be directed by Charles McDougall, who directed the pilot for ABC's "Desperate Housewives."

Margulies will also return to the NBC on March 12 to film "ER's" finale. Her former castmates, including Eriq La Salle, Noah Wyle and, it is rumored George Clooney will appear, will all be guest stars on the final episode of the show. "ER" had a 15-season run, which will officially end on April 2.
