NBC Plans Remake Of U.K. Drama "Prime Suspect"

NBC is planning a remake on the popular U.K. drama series "Prime Suspect." The original series starred Emmy Award-winning actress Helen Mirren as a London police homicide investigator.

According to trades magazine Variety, Hank Steinberg will be developing and writing the two-hour pilot. It has not been mentioned who will be playing in the starring role, which Mirren popularized during the show's seven series.

Mirren starred as Det. Chief Inspector Jane Tennison who found juggled her demanding job and equally stressful personal life.

The show was aired in seven parts between 1991 and 2006, and had amassed numerous awards, including BAFTA TV best actress trophy and Emmy Award prize for the actress.
