NBC's "Community" Gets Animated For Christmas Episode

November 19, 2010 04:26 pm CST

NBC's "Community" wants to deliver a Christmas special like all the ones we know and love. And like "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer" and "The Year Without a Santa Claus" before it, it'll also be in stop-motion animation.

In the special, Abed (Danny Pudi) wakes up in stop-motion animation and takes it as a sign that he and group must re-discover the meaning of Christmas. The rest of the group is concerned with his intense fixation on Christmas and his mental health, going so far as to enlist the help of Professor Duncan (John Oliver).

The rest of the group undergoes hypnosis and they're all soon exploring Abed's winter wonderland, as well as the truth behind his madness.

"It's going to be like a timeless Christmas classic in the stop-motion medium that used to give us so much happiness as children," said creator Dan Harmon. "There's a reason for it to be stop-motion animated, but it's not a dream. It still exists within the reality of the show."

The special stop-motion animation holiday episode of "Community" airs Thursday, December 9th at 8:30pm ET/PT.
