Portia De Rossi Declines "DWTS," Producers Abandon Same-Sex Dancing Couple Idea

Portia De Rossi has declined to appear on the next season of "Dancing with the Stars." The ABC show is not interested in same-sex couples partnering anymore now that Mrs. Ellen DeGeneres is out of the picture.

It has been previously rumored that the producers of the show have been asking the openly lesbian "Arrested Development" actress to star in the show with a female dance partner.

Portia confirmed that she was asked, but she declined the offer.

And because she refused to dance, the producers have decided against featuring same-sex partnering on the dance floor.

A network insider told Pop Eater, "If Portia had agreed then this would have been a done deal. She was the only star that could have pulled this off without completely offending the program's conservative viewers."

It is not a lost cause yet, though. Producers will just wait a few years before they invite same-sex couples on the dance floor because they don't want to "rush into creating a same-sex dancing couple just to get attention and publicity."
