Tyra Banks Apologizes Over "ANTM" Tiny-Waisted Model Clip

August 17, 2010 Tyra Banks, September

Tyra Banks has spoken up about the new "America's Next Top Model" controversy, in which a clip was made to look like she was very fond of a contestant's shockingly thin waist. The supermodel says the promo clip was not "Tyra-approved."

In the clip, Tyra was shocked to see 6'2" contestant Ann with an extremely tiny waist, saying, "There's something about her that I like!"

Afraid that the promo ad will turn out to mean she's advocating thinness, she quickly issued an apology, saying it wasn't the case.

She wrote on her website: "On behalf of the entire Top Model team, I am truly sorry for the style in which the Top Model promo clip was presented… The message conveyed in that video was NOT intentional, and is certainly not Top Model- or Tyra-approved."

"To the people who see me as a representation of upholding the fact that beauty comes in all sizes, I personally apologize. The jokes of my fellow judges connected with my edited sound bite sounded like I was supporting unhealthy eating habits."

"This has never and will NEVER be the case - I am and will always be committed to promoting healthy body image."

The 15th season of "America's Next Top Model" will premiere on September 8.
