David Duchovny has been granted an apology from British tabloid Daily Mail after it ran a story claiming the "Californication" star and his tennis instructor had an affair. Last month, following the announcement that the 48-year-old actor and his wife of 11 years, Tea Leoni, were separating, the paper printed a story that suggested Duchovny and tennis coach Edit Pakay had an affair. The "X-Files" star filed a lawsuit against the Daily Mail, calling their story "false." He was seeking $1 million in damages on the grounds of defamation and invasion of privacy. On Sunday, the tabloid has printed a public apology to Duchovny and Pakay, saying: "On October 19, an article about actor David Duchovny may have suggested he had an amorous relationship with a tennis coach, Edit Pakay." "We now accept this is inaccurate and Ms. Pakay and Mr. Duchovny are only friends who used to play tennis occasionally." "Their relationship went no further and was not a factor in Mr. and Mrs. Duchovny's separation. We apologize to Ms. Pakay, Mr. Duchovny and to Mr. Duchovny's family." |
