White Stripes Frontman Jack White Writes Poem About Detroit

July 7, 2008 06:12 am CDT

White Stripes front man Jack White has written a poem about his hometown of Detroit. The poem appeared in the Detroit Free Press on Sunday.

The singer-guitarist said he wrote the poem because he was frustrated that his thoughts about Motor City were misrepresented when he moved to Nashville two years ago.

The poem, titled "Courageous Dream's Concern," asserts his "feelings about the city itself, and how strong I believe it to be."

Part of the poem reads: "Detroit, you hold what one's been seeking, Holding off the coward-armies weakling, Always rising from the ashes not returning to the earth."

White told the Free Press, "The ... poem is the Detroit from my mind. The Detroit that is in my heart. The home that encapsulates and envelops those who are truly blessed with the experience of living within its boundaries."
