Zac Efron once ate a live octopus for $20. The "17 Again" actor has revealed his father dared him to devour the writhing eight-legged sea creature while they were dining in a sushi bar.

He said: "There was an octopus, it was wriggling on the plate and my dad said, 'I will give you $20 if you eat that.' I was like, 'Bring it on, man!'"

"So I ate it - it was like a cherry tomato, it popped right in my mouth."

The 21-year-old hunk has also confessed to feasting on other unusual dishes during a holiday to South America.

Zac explained: "I will literally try anything once, absolutely. In Mexico I had crickets - it's a popular dish over there, it's a delicacy. It was the most expensive thing on the menu."

"I also had larvae, like flies, in Mexico. It was really good with lemon and salt. It tasted like pasta."

Zac shares a passion for trying bizarre foods with his girlfriend Vanessa Hudgens. The brunette beauty recently revealed she once left feeling queasy after tasting bat.

Vanessa said: "I ate a fruit bat - it is a specialty in the Seychelles islands. They cooked it in red wine. It was really, really dark, grainy meat. It was quite frightening."
