Blindness is an apocalyptic fable about an immediate and unexplainable epidemic of sightlessness.

The citizens of an unidentified city in an unnamed country -- one full of irritating traffic, overbearing media, and other oppressive visual stimuli -- are suddenly stricken with a widespread infectious disease that causes blindness. Ravaged by an instant epidemic of "white blindness," in which the afflicted can see only white light, the authorities snap into panicky action. In an effort to contain the outbreak and the exponential spread of the disease, the government orders the immediate quarantine of all those afflicted in an abandoned asylum.
