JCVD is meta-comedy directed and co-written by Mabrouk El Mechri, in which actor Jean-Claude Van Damme plays himself amidst the weight of withering fame, his addictions to drugs, and his failed attempt at being a father. When Van Damme, the normal, defeated guy, is found mixed up in a hold-up, the "muscles for Brussels" has to search for the hero inside himself. Critic Rob Nelson of the Variety writes Van Damme's performance "constitutes the headiest stretch of the beefy star's career since, well, ever."
