"Alvin And The Chipmunks: The Squekuel" Picked Up By Director Betty Thomas
Wed, 10 Dec 2008

Director Betty Thomas will be helming "Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squekuel," as per Hollywood Reporter. The follow-up to the 2007 live-action/CGI comedy is slated to be released on Christmas Day 2009.

The plot details are still unknown but earlier interviews by producers Janice Karman and Ross Bagdasarian Jr. revealed that the film will be introducing the Chipettes: Brittany, Eleanor and Jeannette. It has been rumored that Drew Barrmore, JoJo, and Miley Cyrus will be voicing the trio.

Meanwhile, Justin Long, Matthew Gray Gubler, and Jesse McCartney will return as the voices of Alvin, Simon, and Theodore. It is still not clear if Jason Lee, who voiced the human Dave Seville in the first film, will be reprising his role.

Bagdasarian had told MTV last month, "I know that Jason wants to [come back]. He's got a conflict schedule-wise, because 'My Name is Earl,' is doing a lot of shows through the end of March, and our movie was actually picked up earlier than normal."

"We're hoping he [can] do it. We want to have him in, and hopefully the schedule can work out."

The first film grossed over 0 million worldwide.
