"G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra" Releases Promotional Photos For August Theater Opening
Tue, 06 Jan 2009
"G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra" might not be coming to theaters until August of this year, but the movie is getting lots of attention with its cast full of famous names. Stephen Sommers is directing the movie, which stars Dennis Quaid as General Hawk, Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Cobra Commander, Sienna Miller as The Baroness, Marlon Wayans as RipCord, Channing Tatum as Duke, Christopher Eccleston as Destro, Ray Park as Snake Eyes and supermodel Karolina Kurkova as Covergirl. The script was co-written by Stuart Beattie, who wrote "Australia" and all three "Pirates of the Caribbean" screenplays, and Skip Woods, who wrote "Hitman" and "Swordfish." Even though the classic Marvel comic G.I. Joe was about a central character named Joe, this movie does not have one character called G.I. Joe; instead that stands for Global Integrated Joint Operating Entity. The movie started out revolving around a top-secret U.S. special forces team, but will now be about a Brussels-based, international co-ed force of operatives who use hi-tech equipment to battle Cobra, an evil organization headed by a double-crossing Scottish arms dealer. Promotional photos of Sienna Miller in an all black, skin-tight, rubber suit and Karolina Kurkova in gray army fatigues have been released. Despite sex appeal, action and violence, fans of the comic series are skeptical about the movie's plot. Paramount Pictures, however, probably isn't worried about whether the movie will flop or not. According to Variety magazine, Paramount made about billion in 2008 with several movies, including "Indiana Jones," "Iron Man" and "No Country For Old Men," which also won the Oscar for Best Film. "G.I. Joe The Rise of Cobra" will be in theaters August 7.
