"Home Alone" Most Popular Christmas Movie In The U.K.
Mon, 15 Dec 2008

"Home Alone" has been named the U.K.'s favorite festive family movie. The survey of 3,000 families - carried out to celebrate the launch of the new premium family movie channel Disney Cinemagic HD - found the average household has seen the 1990 film at least 10 times.

The "feel good storyline and festive theme" of the movie - which stars a then-10-year-old Macaulay Culkin as a boy who gets left behind when his family go on a Christmas vacation - helped it narrowly beat animated tale "The Snowman" to the crown, with "It's A Wonderful Life" in third place.

The remake of "Miracle on 34th Street" came in fourth, while 1964 musical "Mary Poppins" rounded off the top five.

The survey also found "Santa With Muscles," the 1996 flop which starred wrestling legend Hulk Hogan, voted top Festive Family Flop.

"Santa Claus Conquers The Martians," "National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation," "Love Actually" and "Bad Santa" completing the rest of the top five.

Despite its unpopularity, "Bad Santa" star Billy Bob Thornton was voted the fifth best actor to portray Santa for his role in the film, with Lord Richard Attenborough's 1994 "Miracle on 34th Street" proving the most popular portrayal.

Tim Allen in "The Santa Clause," David Huddleston in "Santa Claus: The Movie" and "The Polar Express" with Tom Hanks were also among the most popular Santas.
