"Slumdog Millionaire" has swept all four Golden Globe Awards it was nominated for including Best Screenplay, Best Original Score, Best Director, and Best Film Sunday night in Los Angeles.

Shot in Mumbai, the film tells a story of an 18-year-old orphan from the slums of Mumbai who goes on to win a staggering Rs.20 million (0,000) on India's "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?" game show. Accused of cheating, the boy defends himself against the authorities by narrating his life on the streets, which ultimately holds the key to all his right answers.

Earlier in the evening Danny Boyle won the award for Best Director, while Indian musician A R Rahman was awarded the Golden Globe for the Best Music Composer. Simon Beaufoy won the award for the Best Screenplay.

By the end of the night, it was no surprise when the movie won greatest honor of them all - Best Film. Many Indian celebrities were present at night including actors Anil Kapoor and Freida Pinto, as well as Shah Rukh Khan.

The movie has also won two awards from the Los Angeles Film Critics Association - Best Director for Boyle and Best Music for Rahman. It also won the runner-up prize for Best Cinematography for Anthony Dod Mantle.

The film has also won the Best Cinematography prize from The New York Film Critics' Circle and earned six Critics Choice Award nominations for Picture, Director (Boyle), Writer (Simon Beaufoy), Young Actor (Dev Patel), Composer (Rahman), and Song ("Jai Ho").

The movie has become a phenomenon in the last two months and has won over 55 awards so far and is expected to fare well in the Academy Awards as well. It is Hollywood's second biggest awards show behind only the Academy Awards that will be announced Jan. 22. It also serves as a platform for potential Oscar contenders that will be held Feb. 22.

"Slumdog Millionaire" is set to be released in India on January 29, 2009.
