"The Dark Knight" And "Iron Man" Are The Biggest Money Earners This Year

Superheroes top this year's box office money-making list, with Batman and Iron Man sitting steadily at first and second place respectively.

"The Dark Knight," Heath Ledger's last finished film, and "Iron Man," Robert Downey Jr.'s comeback to stardom, not only generated enough noise and buzz this year, but they also managed to make hundreds of millions of dollars at the box office.

The Batman film grossed 0.8 million in the U.S. alone, while "Iron Man" took home 8.3 million.

Coming in at close third is the Harrison Ford-starrer "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull" with 7 million.

In another list, "Iron Man" drops three places as far as the whole world is concerned. It ranked 5th in the worldwide box office top ten list with 1.9 million.

The musical "Mamma Mia!" also scored a place in the international crowd. It ranked just below "Iron Man" with 2.2 million.
