"The Dark Knight" Won't Be Seen By Chinese Audiences
Thu, 25 Dec 2008
The only way "Batman" fans in China may get to see "The Dark Knight" is if they find a bootleg copy. While "The Dark Knight" has opened in Hong Kong, it will not open all over China. Warner Bros. has decided not to release the film in mainland China because of pre-release conditions and cultural sensitivities. They have decided to also not submit it for censors' approval. Warner Bros. officials have reportedly said that parts of the film, especially scenes shot in Hong Kong where Batman nabs a gangster, would offend censors. Hong Kong, a Chinese-ruled former British colony, maintains separate political and economic systems. Despite the ban of the movie in mainland China, bootleg copies of the movie have been available for several months making it possible for Chinese fans to see "The Dark Knight."
