"The Tourist" Gets 3 Golden Globes Nods Despite Poor Reviews
Tue, 14 Dec 2010
Moviegoers and critics weren't convinced, but apparently, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association is no match for the combined star power of Angelina Jolie and Johnny Depp. Despite being critically panned and getting a mediocre box office debut, "The Tourist" earned three Golden Globe Awards nominations. "The Tourist," which garnered poor reviews, opened at second place with a disappointing million at the box office this weekend. Still, that didn't deter the film to score three nominations for the upcoming Golden Globes. It is up for Best Motion Picture - Comedy or Musical against "Red," "The Kids Are All Right," "Burlesque," and another Depp film "Alice in Wonderland." Jolie and Depp are also both up for an acting trophy for the Comedy or Musical category. Depp has two entries for the Best Performance by an Actor - Comedy or Musical category. The other one is for "Alice in Wonderland." To be fair to Jolie and Depp, the film was criticized for its slow plot and the lack of chemistry between the stars, but their acting wasn't made an issue. However, many are stumped by the film's nomination for Best Motion Picture, and in the comedy or musical no less. Still, it's in good company. "Burlesque" and "Red" were also critically bashed and have had so-so performance at the box office.
The 68th Golden Globe Awards will be presented on January 16 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in California.
