Sci-fi and fantasy author Neil Gaiman has announced that his latest novel "The Graveyard Book" is getting a big screen treatment and that "The Crying Game" helmer Neil Jordan is writing the script.

Jordan will also direct the best-selling tome about an orphan named Nobody Owens who is raised by the ghostly inhabitants of a graveyard.

Gaiman will produce the live-action film and U.K. studio Framestore would handle the visual effects for the film. The author also said that he wants to cast unknown British actors, similar to the "Harry Potter" film franchise.

"The Graveyard Book" earned Gaiman the 2009 Newbery Medal, which is given out to the author of the most distinguished contribution to American literature for children.

Gaiman is currently promoting his new film, "Coraline," based on his 2002 novella of the same name. It is slated for release on February 6.
