Brunette Pinup Queen Bettie Page Passes Away At 85
Fri, 12 Dec 2008

1950s Pinup beauty Bettie Page has died on Thursday after suffering a heart attack nine days ago. She was 85.

Her agent Mark Roesler said that Page had been hospitalized for three weeks with pneumonia. She was about to be released when she suffered the heart attack and failed to regain consciousness.

The brunette's trademark bangs and curvy figure became a fixture in men's magazines during the 50s. She became a Playboy Playmate of the Month in January 1955, when the magazine was still two years old.

Founder Hugh Hefner told the Associated Press, "I think that she was a remarkable lady, an iconic figure in pop culture who influenced sexuality, taste in fashion, someone who had a tremendous impact in our society. She was a very dear person."

Her modeling days started when she met Jerry Tibbs, a police officer interested in photography, in 1950. They took pictures together and put up her first portfolio.

Page won the title "Miss Pinup Girl of the World" in 1995 and she also became known as "The Queen of Curves" and "The Dark Angel."
