Cate Blanchett Looking For A "Special" Director For Her New Film Project
Tue, 13 Jan 2009

Cate Blanchett is looking for a "special" director to helm her newest project, "Cancer Vixen: A True Story."

The film is based on the comic novel of Marisa Acocella Marchetto, a successful magazine cartoonist who battled breast cancer in 2004 and 2005 without health insurance.

"The Curious Case of Benjamin Button" star's production company Working Title Films has acquired the film rights to the graphic novel and the actress hopes to play the part of Marchetto in the project.

She told MTV, "Yes, it's a comic novel, which I'm hoping will come up. It's a really unique book. It's about a cartoonist's look at her contracting cancer, and the process of getting cancer."

Blanchett is developing the film slowly and carefully as she's aware that the project wouldn't be the type to hit a box office jackpot. She is looking for a director that can handle the proper balance of drama and humor in the film.

She continued, "It's a tragic-comic look at it. So it needs a really particular, special filmmaker. I hope that happens."
