Tue, 13 Jan 2009

Film, stage, and television star Christopher Plummer will be honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award at an event sponsored by the Fort Lauderdale International Film Festival and Florida Atlantic University.

Plummer, whose works include the classic film "The Sound of Music" to Pixar's upcoming feature "Up", will be on-hand for a screening of his rarely seen film, 1958's "Wind Across The Everglades." After the film screening, an "Inside the Actors Studio"-style Q&A will take place with Plummer. He will also be on hand to sign copies of his recently released book, "In Spite of Myself: A Memoir." The event will take place at the Cinema Paradiso in Ft. Lauderdale, FL on January 24th. Tickets are currently on sale.

Filmed in Everglades National Park, "Wind Across The Everglades" featured Plummer co-starring with Burl Ives in a story of Florida at the turn of the twentieth century. The film, which has never been released on video or DVD, marks Plummer's first starring role in a film.

Many of the local talent who worked on the 1958 film will also be on hand, as well as the Audobon Society of South Florida, who will talk about current environmental situations as well as those seen in the film, which has been said to be ahead of its time in its portrayal of ecological concern.

Christopher Plummer has starred in recent hits such as Spike Lee's "The Inside Man", "National Treasure", and "A Beautiful Mind". He will next be seen in the titular role of "The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnissus", featuring the late Heath Ledger in his final role.
