Thu, 15 Jan 2009

Cinema Paradiso has unveiled their events lineup for the month, offering free screenings of the Director Guild of America awards film nominees for members for a week.

Fort Lauderdale International Film Festival and DGA members can watch the films nominated for the DGA awards, "Slumdog Millionaire," "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button," "Frost/Nixon," "The Dark Knight," and "Milk," for free from January 19 to 23.

On January 17, Cinema Paradiso is showing the late Luciano Pavarotti's birthday tribute held in October last year.

Also, on January 20, the inauguration of president-elect Barack Obama will be featured on the big screen. Doors will open at 10:30 a.m.

On January 24, FLIFF and the Florida Atlantic University's DeSantis Center for Motion Picture Studies have partnered to bring film legend Christopher Plummer. The film and stage actor will be attending a rare screening of "Wind Across the Everglades" and will be presented with a Lifetime Achievement Award afterward.

Later on, Plummer will talk about his "Star Trek" memories before the screening of the 1991 sci-fi film "Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country," in which he played General Chang.

Tickets for January 24 cost for non-members and for FLIFF members.
