Columbia Gives Up Brad Pitt's "Moneyball"
Mon, 22 Jun 2009
Brad Pitt's latest project has been scrapped. Columbia Pictures bailed out on "Moneyball," placing it into "limited turnaround" just a few days before it was supposed to begin production on Monday. Pitt is supposed to star in the project, with Steven Soderbergh set to direct. However, Columbia's Amy Pascal has decided not to pursue the film, but gave them chance to set it up at another studio. Variety reports that Pascal didn't like the Soderbergh's rewrite to the project and found it different from Steven Zaillian's script and the earlier scripts she had championed. The project is now aiming for Warner Bros. and Paramount for distribution. If they couldn't find a new financier, Columbia will re-examine options including replacing Soderbergh, delaying the film until they have sorted out their creative differences, or pulling the plug on the project completely.
