Dame Judi Dench has been honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award at the 21st European Film Awards on Saturday.

The 73-year-old veteran actress has accepted the accolade, which recognized her many years in the cinema and her contribution to the arts.

"Gomorra" by director Matteo Garrone has received the grand prize for the night, the European Film 2008, along with other major awards, including the director's and actor's trophy for Garrone and lead star Toni Servillo.

"Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix" also received a prize, the People's Choice Award, the only award decided by ordinary cinemagoers instead of the 1,800 members of the European Film Academy.

Next year's awards show will be in Essen, Germany.

Carlo di Palma European Cinematographer Award 2008: Marco Onorato for "Gomorra"

European Film Academy Prix D'Excellence 2008: Magdalena Biedrzycka for costume design, "Katyn"

European Composer 2008: Max Richter for "Waltz with Bashir"

European Discovery 2008: "Hunger"

European Film Academy Critics' Award 2008 - Prix FIPRESCI: Abdellatif Kechiche for "La Graine Et Le Mulet" (The Secret of the Grain/Couscous)

European Film Academy Short Film 2008 - Prix UIP: "Frankie" by Darren Thornton
