Elisabeth Shue Talks New Movie "Piranha 3-D"
Mon, 09 Nov 2009
Elisabeth Shue , best known for her Oscar-nominated turn in "Leaving Las Vegas" as well as her roles in hits like the "Back to the Future" sequels and "Adventures in Babysitting," has recently starred in more independent fare like "Hamlet 2," where she played a parody of herself and "Gracie," which she helped produce. But next year, Shue will hit the big screen in "Piranha 3-D," a horror comedy which lifts the name and fish from the 1980's cult classic, but with a brand new story. Shue plays Sheriff Julie Forester, who has to fight off flesh-eating piranhas when an underwater tremor unleashes them into a tourist-filled lake. Shooting took place in Arizona's Lake Havasu during the summer's record temperatures. "It was really fun, although the heat. I say fun, but ha!" Shue said, on a break from participating in the yearly charity event the Chris Evert Pro-Celebrity Tennis Classic. "My part was so much fun because I play the sheriff. It was very physical, I got to drive boats really fast, and that part was really fun," she said. "But the very difficult part was the 105-degree heat when I'm wearing long pants." When on-set shots of Shue leaked early in June, the pictures of her in a wet tank top got bloggers everywhere talking about her buff body. But Shue says she didn't do it for the movie. "That's just from tennis," she says modestly. "I'm kind of obsessed with tennis and I was a gymnast for a long time and I didn't really even work out for the movie." Shue, as the muscled heroine, reunites with her "Future" co-star Christopher Lloyd, as well as Jerry O'Connell, Adam Scott, and even Richard Dreyfuss in "Piranha 3-D," which is currently scheduled to be released on April 16, 2010.
