Film About The Late Judy Garland Planned
Wed, 04 Feb 2009
A biopic that centers on the life of the late actress Judy Garland has been planned. The Weinstein Co. has acquired the film rights to Gerald Clarke's book "Get Happy: the Life of Judy Garland," Variety reports. Published in 2000, the book details how the actress, best known for her role in the 1939 film "The Wizard of Oz," was plagued with personal problems and the mistreatments she received from employers, family and lovers. Garland was married five times and suffered financial troubles and substance addictions among many others. She attempted suicide several times. She died in 1969 at the age of 47. Cause of death was "an incautious self-over dosage" of barbiturates. Clarke is best known for his "Capote" biography about the life of author Truman Capote. His work was the basis for the Academy Award-winning film "Capote."
