Film About U.K's Most Notorious Prisoner Charles Bronson Condemned By Prison Officers Group

A film about Charles Bronson, a notorious British prisoner, has been condemned by prison guard officers, saying the biopic glorifies violence.

"Bronson" tells the story of the inmate, who was born as Michael Gordon Peterson. He is described as U.K.'s most dangerous prisoner after committing numerous crimes behind bars, including a number of hostage situations and assaults.

He was initially jailed for seven years in 1974 for armed robbery when he was just 21. However, his sentence has been repeatedly extended after committing several crimes within prison. Most of his time in prison has been spent in solitary confinement.

The film, starring Tom Hardy as the titular character and Matt King, has been criticized by the Prison Officers' Association, saying he had caused trauma to people and that people should not glorify his behavior.

Chairman Colin Moses told BBC, "We should not be glorifying this type of behavior. This man has spent the best part of his life behind bars for causing harm to people. He has caused trauma to hard-working, law-abiding people who will never work again."

"Bronson is not a victim, he is the perpetrator."

The 56-year-old inmate, who changed his name by a fight promoter in 1987 to Charles Bronson, is currently held in Aberystwyth, West Wales, spending his time by writing poetry and producing pieces of art. He has won a record 11 Koestler Awards for his poems and art.
