George Lucas To Receive Art Director's Guild Cinematic Imagery Award

Legendary director and producer George Lucas has been chosen to receive the Art Directors Guild's Outstanding Contribution to Cinematic Imagery Award in 2009 for his revolutionary films. The announcement of the selection was made today by the ADG President, Thomas Walsh and co-producers John Sabato and John Janvas. The award is given to director's whose work in the film industry enhances the visual aspects of the movie-going experience. Previous honorees include Clint Eastwood, Blake Edwards, Terry Gilliam, Ray Harryhausen, Norman Jewison, John Lasseter, Frank Oz and Steven Spielberg. Lucas won ten Academy Awards for his Star Wars Saga and the films broke all box-office records to help set new standards for sophistication in film visuals and sounds. His "Indiana Jones" chronicles won eight Academy Awards, 12 Emmy awards and the fourth installment in 2008 became a number one worldwide film. Lucas will receive the award on February 14, 2009 as one of the highlights of the 13th annual Art Directors Guild Awards at the Beverly Hilton Hotel during a gala event. The will also be eight other awards given in production design categories for television, theatrical motion pictures and commercials. The Lifetime Achievement Award will also be given to Paul Sylbert for Production Designer
