Miami, FL (CNS) -- The Film Festival is fast becoming the stomping ground du jour for the cinema enthusiast and the culturally starved. Some cities are bursting with them, like New York who seems to have one lined up right after the other.

The city that never sleeps (and therefore has time to watch lots of movies) features a few lesser known festivals besides the well-known Tribeca Film Festival, including the New York Short Film Festival, the Brooklyn Film & Arts Festival, the Brooklyn International Film Festival, and even Cinekink, a festival specializing in sexually charged cinema.

The New York Short Film takes place February 24th through the 29th, 2009 and showcases international short films. The Brooklyn Film & Arts Festival centers around Brooklyn-focused documentaries and takes place November 25th through the 28th, 2008.

The Brooklyn International Film Festival showcases everything from feature films to shorts from around the world, with a first prize of ,000. It takes place in June of 2009. Cinekink is the more erotic side of film festivals, with comedies featuring the subject matter to movies that are downright explicit. It takes place February 24th, 2009 to March 1st.

Canada is a new haven for film festivals as well. Besides the famed Toronto Film Festival, Canada is also home to the World of Comedy International Film Festival, the Reel Fun Film Festival, the NSI Online Short Film Festival, and the Canada International Film Festival.

The World of Comedy International Film Festival in Vancouver shows strictly comedic features and shorts. Directors bring the funny on February 25th, 2009 to March 1st. The Reel Fun Film Festival in Calgary focuses on cultural diversity and showcasing emotionally stirring human interest stories. It takes place February 12th, 2009 to February 22nd. The Canada International Film Festival takes place on January 24th and 25th, 2009. With the Fort Lauderdale International Film Festival just having passed, South Florida will see the Miami International Film Festival, The Miami Gay & Lesbian Film Festival, and a special romance themed Romance in a Can Film Festival over the next year. Just in time for Valentines, the Romance in a Can Film Festival showcases romantic independent movies and takes place February 6th, 2009 to the 15th in Miami Beach.
