Wed, 14 Jan 2009

Martial arts film actor Jackie Chan is in talks to star in the remake of "The Karate Kid" as the mentor Mr. Miyagi.

According to Hollywood Reporter, the 54-year-old would take over the role made famous by the late Pat Morita in the original film in 1984.

Jaden Smith, son of Hollywood heavyweight Will Smith, has been confirmed to play the titular Karate Kid. The film will borrow elements from the first film, wherein a bullied kid learns to stand up for himself through the help of a martial arts mentor.

Director herald Zwart will helm the film, which will start production in Beijing this year.

Ralph Macchio starred in the original movie and its two sequels, while Hilary Swank took over the role in 1984.
