Jakarta International Film Fest Cuts Celebration To Five Days
Wed, 26 Nov 2008

The Jakarta International Film Fest has been trimmed down from 10 to just 5 days because of the global economic crisis.

JiFFest, now on its 10th year, will now run from December 5 to 9 instead of the originally planned dates of December 5 to 14.

The movie fest has decided to scale down its size to ensure that it would continue its celebration this year. The festival receives a majority of their budget from foreign benefactors, but since the global economic slowdown, the sponsors were less forthcoming.

The depreciating value of the country's currency also became a concern as it made the cost of film rentals and hiring venues increased.

JiFFest will feature the Coen brothers' "Burn After Reading" at the Gala Opening, and Woody Allen's "Vicky Cristina Barcelona" at the closing event.
