Jerry Bruckheimer Talks "Pirates" Sequel
Thu, 11 Jun 2009

With Johnny Depp in talks to play Tonto in the upcoming movie, "The Lone Ranger," reports started to fill in that a sequel to the mega-popular "Pirates of the Caribbean" sequel would be pushed back. But producer Jerry Bruckheimer says the next "Pirates" film is a priority.

"It's a great franchise for them and for us, too," Bruckheimer told Coming Soon. "We love the character and Johnny was really excited about coming back to Captain Jack. He certainly is interested in Tonto, but Disney's priority is to get 'Pirates' made first. You never know what's going to happen, but they would like it."

Terry Rossio and Ted Elliot are currently working on the script which is said to be a "whole new way of going," including a bit more comedy than the last two sequels.

Gore Verbinski, who directed the first three films, has yet to sign on. "He created the franchise so we'd love to have him back, but it's kind of up to him," said Bruckheimer.

Disney was pushing for a 2012 release for the next installment in the "Pirates of the Caribbean" series.
