Malin Akerman joins "Rock of Ages" cast

Anne Lu - Celebrity News Service Contributor Los Angeles, CA, United States (AHN Entertainment) - Malin Akerman is joining the cast of "Rock of Ages." The "Bang Bang Club" star completes the cast of the Adam Shankman-directed adaptation of the Broadway musical, which also includes Tom Cruise, Mary J. Blige, Bryan Cranston, and Alec Baldwin among others. The 32-year-old actress will play Constance, a journalist who plans to write an expose on rocker Stacee Jaxx, to be played by Cruise. Her scene will include seducing Cruise and singing a duet with him on the Foreigner song "I Want to Know What Love Is." According to Deadline, the role of Constance was first offered to Anne Hathaway, but she already landed the part of Catwoman in "The Dark Knight Rises." Shankman also courted Amy Adams, but she was already given Lois Lane for the Superman flick "Man of Steel." Previously announced cast include Cranston, Baldwin, Blige, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Russell Brand, Giamatti, Diego Boneta, and former "Dancing with the Stars" professional dancer Julianne Hough. Akerman will also be seen in the action drama "Catch .44" alongside Bruce Willis, Forest Whitaker, and Nikki Reed, as well as in the comedy "Wanderlast" with Jennifer Aniston and Paul Rudd.
