New Film "Saving God" Deals With Gang Issues And Turning Lives Around
Fri, 03 Oct 2008

At a time when gang violence is on the rise in many U.S. cities, a new movie is being released called "Saving God" that deals with the gang issue. The movie is a heart-felt tale of the eternal struggle between good and evil.

Andre van Heerden, the producer of "Saving God," told Celebrity News Service that when people see the movie they will walk away with the knowledge that "no one is beyond redemption." He added, "Regardless of where you are in your life now, or in the past, there is a way to turn around."

Van Heerden said the script was written by Michael Jackson (not the musician) and many of the events in the movie come from Jackson's own background. "There are two twists in the movie that no one sees coming. I haven't met anyone who hasn't cried at the ending," Van Heerden said.

The movie stars Ving Rhames, star of "Mission Impossible 1-3" and Dean McDermott of "So NoTORIous." Ricardo Chavira of "Desperate Housewives" also co-stars along with Double Juno Award Nominee and R&B sensation Jully Black. Black's soulful musical voice is also featured in "Saving God."

In the movie, Rhames stars as Armstrong Cane who served 15 years in prison for manslaughter. After being released, he serves God as the pastor of his community church. As he works to rebuild the community he left behind, the ex-con meets a young man named Norris who is headed down the wrong path. Lured into the depths of drugs and violence by a local drug dealer named Blaze, played by McDermott, the troubled teen is pulled in opposite directions.

Van Heerden said the movie will be coming out on DVD October 14. The movie has also been released at Urban Ministries, the largest African American ministry in the United States.

"We will be doing a special screening with about 500 of their ministers," Van Heerden told CNS, adding that Urban Ministries has a network of about 40,000 churches he hopes will get to see the movie.
