Actress Nicole Kidman has signed up to produce and star in a new action film, "The Eighth Wonder." The film is an action adventure that is based on an archaeological discovery which ignites a race around the globe.

The movie will be a 20th Century Fox production and will be written by Simon Kinberg, writer of the action comedy film "Mr. and Mrs. Smith" starring Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt. At one point, Kidman was actually scheduled to appear in the film with the powerhouse duo.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Kinberg and Kidman have been looking for a project to collaborate on. Kinberg's other works include "Jumper," "X-Men: The Last Stand" and Ben Stiller's upcoming sequel, "Night at the Museum 2."

Kidman's latest film, "Australia" opens in the United Kingdom in December and co-stars Hugh Jackman. The film is an epic from director Baz Luhrmann.

Luhrmann and Kidman previously collaborated on his 2001 musical, "Moulin Rouge."
