Oliver Stone Helming Documentary About Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez
Thu, 11 Dec 2008

Following his U.S. President Bush biopic "W.," filmmaker Oliver Stone is set to helm a film about another country leader in a documentary about Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez.

The director/screenwriter has been working on the yet untitled documentary for six months. He was with the controversial South American president during the rescue of hostages in February.

According to Variety, the film will not focus on the rescue, but on the opposition the president faces at home and abroad, especially from the current U.S. administration with Bush.

Stone hopes to have the doc ready for next year.

The director is known and often criticized for his political-themed films. He was behind the controversial 1991 film about former President John F. Kennedy, "JFK," and he also directed, produced, and wrote 1995's "Nixon," which tells the story of President Richard Nixon.

His latest film is about George W. Bush's life in "W."
