Oscar-winning Indie film "Once" getting Broadway adaptation
Thu, 13 Jan 2011

"Once" is taking stage on Broadway. A new musical adaptation of the 2007 Oscar-winning Irish film of the same name will arrive in the fall, with a pre-Broadway workshop presentation scheduled to take place in April to May.

"Once" captivated critics and audience alike when it premiered at Sundance in 2007. The indie film, about the romance of a street performer and an immigrant, has then appeared in many critics' top ten best films of the year.

The producers have announced that Irish playwright Enda Walsh and Scottish director John Tiffany are on board the project. The award-winning music of the film's stars, Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova, will be featured in the stage adaptation alongside the work of designer Bob Crowley and choreographer Stephen Hoggett.

A pre-Broadway workshop will take place at the American Repertory Theater in Cambridge, MA in April.

No cast has been announced yet.
