Wed, 19 Nov 2008

The mutants just got younger. Twentieth Century Fox is prepping up a new "X-Men" film with younger mutants, with "Gossip Girl" creator Josh Schwartz tapped to pen the script.

"X-Men: First Class" will be produced by Lauren Shuler Donner, the producer of the first three mutant flicks - which starred Hugh Jackman, Patrick Stewart, and Ian McKellen. "Mr. and Mrs. Smith" writer Simon Kinberg will also be producing.

Schwartz is expected to bring in a younger batch of superheroes in the series. The students at the Xavier Institute for Higher Learning, who were introduced in the previous films in cameo roles, will likely be taking more active parts in the upcoming film.

The first three "X-Men" films earned .2 billion worldwide.
